One Party to Rule Them All...
Just about all of my friends have an obsession with Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. And when I say, 'obsession,' I mean it. We're talking about kids who have taken the time to learn common phrases in Elvish and use Lord of the Rings movie quotes as comebacks.
So when my soon-to-be-sixteen-year-old friend saw a LOTR party idea on Pinterest and liked it, I took it under my wing to make sure it happened.
As far as decoration goes, I have the Hobbit font memorized. Everything was written curvy and every vowel had three dots! We had directional signs pointing to the different Middle Earth locations and vintage map table runners. Dwarvish gold and treasure garnished our tables, too. And of course, the Hobbit soundtracks were playing dramatically in the background during the party :)
For food, we served salted pork (hot dogs), Elvish Lembas buns (hot dog buns), PO TA TOES, boiled and mashed (potato salad and potato chips), Mordor's famous mac & cheese, and Farmer Maggot provided crops (corn on the cob, veggies and dip). Merry and Pippin didn't steal them... Promise! We drank Gollum's swamp water from Dwarvish goblets (green tea with lemons and limes).
The book cake and Hobbit door cupcakes were amazing! The birthday girl's mom did a spectacular job! No one wanted to eat it because it was just so fabulous! We also had a bonfire and roasted marshmallows :)
After we ate, my brother and I had prepared a game for the older kids to play which would determine who was better, Dwarves or Elves.
The players were split into the two categories and sent on a mission to get their ring to Mordor first by following their guide, Gollum, and solving his riddles. My brother and I were the two different guides for the teams and we lead them through Rivendell where they had to complete movie trivia to go on. Then to the Mines of Moria where they had to find Balin's book and complete a puzzle which led them to Treebeard in Isengard with the final clue to Mordor.
The Elves won in case you were wondering ;)
